Problem & Objective

The Prayer project by artist James Webb is an international, interfaith art exhibition that captures the diverse vocal forms of worship within a specific city, celebrating Houston's rich cultural landscape through audio recordings of prayers.

I was tasked with:

  • Coordinating and communicating with potential participants
  • Managing project logistics and timelines
  • Designing project branding, brochures, and exhibition materials
  • Facilitating audio recording sessions
  • Supporting transcription and documentation efforts

Solution & Accomplishments

I collaborated with artist James Webb and Anthony Almendarez to document the spiritual diversity of Houston, reaching out to 350 communities and successfully engaging 155 individuals from 37 places of worship. The project captured prayers representing multiple religious traditions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Bahai Faith, and various spiritual groups.

Accomplishments:

  • Contacted over 350 community organizations and individuals
  • Facilitated participation from 155 individuals across 37 places of worship
  • Recorded over 9 hours of prayers in 29 different languages
  • Designed comprehensive project branding and documentation materials
  • Supported the exhibition installation at the University of Houston's Blaffer Art Museum
