Social Media Strategy

Problem & Objective

During my time as an intern at 5+8, I worked alongside several brands to assist with social media management and content creation. I particularly enjoyed my time working with Southern Star.

Here are a few of the problems Southern Star needed to accomplish:

  • Effectively promote recent product launches, as well as current and seasonal products.
  • Increase social media engagement on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook.
  • Drive sales of products in stores, online, and at the brewery.
  • Amplify awareness and attendance of events.

I was tasked with:

  • Creating compelling designs for posts and writing entertaining copy to promote drinks, merch, and events.
  • Managing the social media calendar and scheduling for Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook accounts on SproutSocial.
  • Researching and selecting influencers for the influencer program to further promote drinks to targeted audiences.
  • Conducting a thorough industry report on 2023 beer market trends to inform new product conceptions and further enhance marketing strategies.

Solution & Accomplishments

I resolved these problems by creating compelling designs aligned with brand guidelines, implementing a strategic social media calendar using SproutSocial, collaborating with influencers to promote products, and conducting thorough industry research to inform product concepts and marketing strategies.

Accomplishments:

  • Leveraged my design expertise to create visually compelling materials that resonated with Southern Star's brand identity.
  • Collaborated with the 5+8 team to boost social media engagement rates by 21%, employing a data-driven approach to content creation and dissemination.
  • Orchestrated an effective influencer program, establishing 70 new relationships and increasing collaboration rates by 26%.
  • Created the TikTok account which went from 0 to 76 followers with 948 likes by strategically curating content, including downloading and reposting previous videos, and maintaining a dynamic presence with new videos for each new beer release.
  • Devised a comprehensive industry report that served as a cornerstone for informed business, product, and marketing decisions throughout 2023.
  • Researched critical aspects such as consumer behavior, product and design trends, and market opportunities and challenges.
  • Developed a nuanced marketing strategy within the report, aligning it with Southern Star's existing approach while pinpointing potential avenues for industry differentiation.

Learnings & Takeaways

I learned a great deal on social media management, project management, influencer collaboration, data and analytics, market research, product conceptualization, and team collaboration.

A few of my takeaways include:

  • Content Strategy: Learning to adapt content strategies across different platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook) to optimize engagement and modify strategies based on real-time analytics and feedback.
  • Project Management: Enhanced my project management skills by coordinating various aspects of the social media strategy in different stages, from concept development to content publishing.
  • Team Communication: Understanding the importance of effective communication and collaboration within the cross-functional team since deliverables needed to be drafted and approved.
  • Data & Analytics: Improved understanding and use of data analytics and insights for making informed decisions regarding content strategy and social media scheduling and tracking progress with KPIs.
